Herat: Dozens of oil gas tankers exploded on the Afghanistan-Iran border, injuring 60 people and burning more than 500 vehicles
According to the international news agency, several oil and gas tankers standing at the customs office of Islam Fort in Herat near the Afghanistan-Iran border suddenly exploded
The flames that touched the sky with the eruption of tankers also engulfed hundreds of vehicles around them, causing more than 500 vehicles to ignite while 17 people were injured
Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, a spokeswoman for Herat's health department, said 60 injured had been brought to the Islam Fortress Clinic and Regional Hospital, 11 of whom were said to be in critical condition
Oil tankers that exploded contained millions of dollars worth of oil and gas, but it is not clear if these tankers were coming to Afghanistan or going to Iran. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blasts
Clouds of smoke swept across the area, while temperatures in the area affected by the flames rose sharply and fire brigades and rescue workers struggled to reach the scene
